Abstract

Ionuţ Butoi’s book represents an exciting and innovative contribution to the social, intellectual and political history of the interwar period. The extended commentary I have written with reference to this work, cluttered in several places with some constructively oriented critical remarks, pinpoints the relatively unusual character of the book within the contemporary literature regarding this topic, a literature where the interwar period is still praised and made the prey of ideology, on the basis of some shallow prejudices
