Women need to reason their departure, what are the reasons that induce to abandon home and break the rules of society itself. Moreover, the writing itself needs to justify its value, in order to be equated with the dominant discourse, ie the man. This article explores the relationship between biological gender and literary subgenre consisting of travel literature to discern the common features and conventions underlying the pre-text of the travel books regarding women. Examples drawn from the chronicles of Serena, Audouard, Belgiojoso, Bertrana, Sackville-West, etc.. underlie this work.
