In medieval Scandinavia, betrayal (svika) holds an important place. First, because as opposite of trust (trú), it characterizes misconduct which made its author a vile person, away from drengr who has constantly an honorable attitude. Second, and as a result, because it is part of the recurrent component of the icelandic sagas, mainly « sagas of knights » whose Karlamagnús saga is the most famous example. This study therefore aims to enlighten this notion and, through the betrayal of jarl Guinelon, the legal consequences it engenders.
