Wind profilers are ground-based radars designed to measure the wind profile of the atmosphere aloft. There exist different techniques to derive the wind: the Doppler technique and an ensemble of multiple receiver methods. After a brief description and an illustrative comparison, we discuss some of the outstanding questions that remain when considering those different techniques. Thus, we establish the need for a visualisation tool in order to better understand the working details of the different methods. The developed software philosophy is described in this paper while the focus is placed on its applications.
