An Investigation of Qur’an Mus’hafs of Teimuri Era (Comparative Study of the Features of the Opening Pages in Qur’anic Manuscripts of the Holy Eve of Qom and Astan Quds Razavi Museums)

Objectives: The present study, identifying and introducing the opening pages of Quranic mus’hafs of Teimuri era, aims to describe and explain the features of the opening pages, layout and decorative elements related to these works. Methodology / Approach: The present paper, regarding the purpose and process of this research is descriptive - analytical and uses a comparative method to evaluate works and the data are gathered using a field data collection method. Research questions: What are the decorative-visual features of the opening pages of Quranic mus’hafs of Teimuri era and their similarities and differences? Findings: the investigation of the layouts and claffification of decorative elements showed that generally 63.3% of the layouts of opening pages in Teimuri era were three inscription and five inscriptivon armbands. The greatest number of decorative elements belonged to Astan Quds Razavi Mus’hafs. The most important similarities were using especial kinds of colors, layout compositions, motifs and paintings and the most prominent difference existed in the relative percentage of visio-decorative elements. Conclusion: The results show that: The opening pages of Teimuri Qur’anic mus’hafs have a balanced and unitary structure in composition, color and paintings. Both works had arabesques and geometric patterns and lazuli and gold colors with varying relations. The decorations in the opening pages of Mus’hafs of Astan Quds Razavi had more delicacy and variety of paintings.
