Pombagira's Heart

Abstract

Pombagira is perhaps the most controversial spiritual entity of the Afro-Brazilian religions. Originated in Quimbanda, she is worshiped today in the majority of the terreiros of Umbanda and great part of the ones of Candomblé and other religious modalities of African origin. In this article, Pombagira is introduced by means of a short-story, a work of fiction based on her innumerable legends. After that presentation, it is looked to interpret its sociological meaning to the Brazilian society.
