The article is a detailed analysis of the distribution of income in Brazil based on the microdata of the National Continuous Household Sample Survey of 2017. Both the usual income and the actual income from work are considered. The income distributions of all jobs among employed persons and among economically active persons, as well as the distribution of per capita household income, are analyzed. Several concepts and measures are applied and explained: percentiles and deciles, quantile curve, Pen’s parade, first order dominance, Gini index, 10+/40− means ratio, Lorenz curve, etc. Income distributions are compared for men and women and for three skin color categories (white, yellow and black). When analyzing the distribution of per capita household income, the distributions in the rural and in the urban areas and in several regions of the country are compared. Finally, poverty measures in Brazil and in seven regions are analyzed.
