The Level of Health Awareness among Female Students at Community Colleges in Jordan

This study aimed to investigate the level of students' knowledge and application of hygiene principles in their daily life. A test consisting of 32 multiple choice questions divided into five domains was used after it was developed, validated, and its reliability calculated with Cronbach Alpha of (0.77). The sample chosen by randomly stratified procedure comprised 678 of the whole population of 2030 female students in community colleges in Irbid, which is equal to one-third of the population. The results revealed that the level of hygienic awareness and knowledge was lower than expected (80%), being affected by three factors: level of study, level of living status, and kind of specialization . The level of health awareness and knowledge of second year students was better than that of the first year students. The level of health awareness and knowledge of the students was correspondingly affected by high, medium and low standards of living. The knowledge and awareness of students specialized in vocational was training better than those in the academic, and the academic specialization was better than business in affecting the level of hygienic awareness of the students. The recommendation of this study stressed the need to adopt a course of hygiene awareness as a requirement for students in community colleges in Jordan.
