Serbian Church Slavonic and Serbian vernacular phonetic characteristics of the Baranja Transcription of Dušan's Code
Abstract
The paper gives the description of some specific phonetic characteristics of The Baranja Transcription of Dušan's Code. The following was taken into consideration: the faith of semi-vowels, the faith of the vowel jat, the change of the group вьinto 8-, vowel 1, the change of 1 into ο at the end of the word and the end of the syllable, the results of the old iotation in groups *tj, *dj, special iotation, groups; ьт- i вьс-. Several examples of the substitution of the semi-vowel for the vowel a have been registered in the manuscript. Ekavian substitute of jat is the mutual characteristic of the Serbian Church Slavonic and Serbian vernacular language. Some examples of the unchanged group вь-have been registered, which are in accordance with the norm of the Serbian Church Slavonic; in addition, those examples in which 8- appears are also present, which is in accordance with the Serbian vernacular language. In the manuscript, the example of keeping the vowel l that have been registered are typical of the Serbian Church Slavonic language; moreover, in accordance with the norm of the Serbian Church Slavonic language is also the keeping of the final l and the l at the end of a syllable. The Baranja Transcription contains not only the examples of the Serbian vernacular, but also those of the Serbian Church Slavonic results of the old iotation in the groups *tj, *dj. The same goes for the cases of special iotation. Unlike the Serbian Church Slavonic group чг- which in the studied document can only be seen twice, the vernacular group шт- is frequent. In the group вьс- typical of the Serbian Church Slavonic language, no metathesis can be found in the transcription.
