Xu et al. used fRMI to measure stimulus-induced neural responses when participants listened to narrative and argumentative texts. They demonstrate both commonalities and differences between the narrative and the argumentative brain networks, which reveals how diverse mental activities arise from both the segregation and integration of existing brain systems.
