According to WHO (World Health Organization) in 2011, about 1 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension which two thirds are in developing countries. Hypertension causes 8 million people worldwide die each year , of which nearly 1.5 million of them are in South East Asia. Hypertension occurs when a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal where the systolic pressure above 140 mmHg and diastolic above 90 mmHg. Hypertension is a disease that arises due to the interaction of various risk factors a person has. The risk factors that affect the incidence of hypertension is classified into factors that can not be modified and can be modified. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for hypertension in the Health Center East kelayan city of Banjarmasin. This type of research is descriptive with data collection using a questionnaire to determine the risk factors of hypertension in the Health Center East kelayan Banjarmasin during the period 2 May 2016 - 2 June 2016. With the inclusion criteria, namely: men and women aged 26-65 years, patients without complications and willing to become respondent. The sampling method used is Consecutive Sampling. The results of this study showed that risk factors of hypertension in Puskesmas kelayan Eastern Banjarmasin city is sex (risky 0,928 times) , smoking (risk 1,368 times), the habit of eating food salty (risky 2.898 times), obesity (risk 1,147 times), consumption of saturated fat foods (risk 1,505 times).
