Abstract Background Viral encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain parenchyma caused by a virus. It is the most common type of encephalitis and often coexists with viral meningitis. Objectives To highlight on viral encephalitis,its types,epidemiology,symptoms and complications. Results Viral Encephalitis can affect individuals of all ages, but it is frequently observed in pediatric and elderly populations, and the most common causes are viral infections. Several viral agents have been described to induce encephalitis, such as arboviruses, rhabdoviruses, enteroviruses, herpesviruses, retroviruses, orthomyxoviruses, orthopneumovirus, and coronaviruses, among others Conclusion Viral Encephalitis is a public health problem that has been increasing over the years either due to the emerging viruses, better diagnosis methods, or new knowledge about the etiology of the disease.
