Phénomène d’insalubrité dans les institutions universitaires à Yaoundé : cas de l’Université de Yaoundé 1
Abstract
The observation of most university institutions in Cameroon, in particular the University of Yaoundé I, reveals significant problems of insalubrity. This situation raises questions about the explanatory factors of this scourge in these universes which, nevertheless, constitute frameworks par excellence for the life and training of a population supposed to be sufficiently aware of the risks and consequences linked to this phenomenon. In other words, it is a question of understanding, explaining and analyzing the significance of the phenomenon of insalubrity in these environments. The study is based on a mixed approach using quantitative and qualitative approaches in the data collection process. It was selected from a sample of 500 students choosen through simple random sampling. Statistical analysis of quantitative data using SPSS software reveals the existence of socio-cultural, infrastructural and institutional factors, namely the carelessness and incivility of students, which add to the inefficiency of the sanitation system and the lack of sanctions in the explanation of the persistence of unsanitary conditions in the different universities. The thematic analysis of information collected from 30 resource people interviewed through reasoned choice and using an interview guide corroborates these results. The result of an awakening of ecological awareness, deep aspirations, questions and observations which take their real form in its development, this study allows us to take up the challenge: finding a viable and sustainable solution likely to contribute to resolving the problems of unsanitary conditions in universities through collective awareness.
