In this study, nickel-based coatings were fabricated with a novel “8″ type oscillating laser cladding at different oscillation frequencies. The microstructure, microhardness, room and high temperature wear resistance, corrosion resistance of the coatings were analyzed. The results show that the phases of the coatings are γ-Ni phase、M3C2 phase、M7C3 phase、M23C6 phase and M2B phase (M represents Fe and Cr) at different oscillation frequencies. As the oscillation frequency increases, the equiaxed crystal increases, the average hardness gradually increases, and the wear resistance of the coatings at room and high temperature initially increases and then decreases, and the corrosion resistance increases first and then decreases. At room temperature, when the oscillation frequency is 450 Hz, the coating has the best wear resistance. At 600 °C, when the oscillation frequency is 250 Hz, the coating has the best wear resistance. The wear mechanism of the coatings at different oscillation frequencies includes abrasive wear, adhesive wear, and oxidation wear.
