Risk management is the core activity in banking, and credit risk management is vital for the sustainability of the banking business; In this sense, good corporate governance practices are generally associated with better credit risk management. Through correlation analysis, using public information from financial institutions, some corporate governance variables have been identified and associated with loan portfolio management indicators. From our analysis, there is no clear correlation between corporate governance and credit risk management; however, a strong relationship has been observed between the size of the board of directors and loan portfolio management indicators.
