Mg alloys are the lightest metallic structural material with tremendous application value. Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) is the most important grain refining and texture weakening mechanism for Mg alloys. The DRX kinetic models establish the relationship between the DRX fraction and the deformation parameters. It can effectively guide the determination of the deformation parameters to control the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the Mg alloys. In this study, the high-temperature flow behavior and DRX characteristics of Mg alloys are comprehensively reviewed. Additionally, the DRX kinetic models for the AZ, ZK and rare earth (RE)-containing series Mg alloys are systematically evaluated. Recommendations are provided regarding the appropriate selection of the DRX kinetic models for various Mg alloys. Lastly, the limitations of the existing DRX kinetic models are critically discussed and potential directions for future research and applications are outlined.
