Abstract

Recommendations by the German Council of Science and Humanities regarding the specification and introduction of a German “Research Core Dataset” have initiated a process of research information standardization in the German science system. The article provides an introduction to the Research Core Dataset, its development process, structure and contents, with a focus on the area of publications and its requirements for data collection. It further addresses the current implementation process of the standard and describes the tasks and support structures of its helpdesk. It concludes with a discussion on the role of libraries’ expertise in implementation and future development of the standard in the context of recent developments in the German research information landscape.
