Ten parental lines were crossed in line x tester fashion comprising seven lines and three testers at Department of Vegetable Crops, Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore during 2017-18. The developed 21 F1s and their parents were evaluated under polyhouse condition in randomized block design with three replications. The estimate of variance of GCA, SCA and their ratio indicated the preponderance of non-additive gene action for most of the traits. Based on gca effects of parents, the lines IIHR 2042, Punjab Sartaj and EC 160885, and the tester EC 163605 were found to be the best general combiners for yield and attributing traits. The crosses Punjab Sartaj × EC 163605, IIHR 2042 × IIVR BT-10, Punjab Rakthak × EC 163611 and EC 160885 × EC 163611 were found to be good specific combiners for the growth, yield and quality attributing traits. Hence, these crosses of tomato can be recommended for commercial cultivation.
