Rosai-Dorfman disease in a patient with cervical lymphadenopathy and associated Serratia marcescens infection
Abstract
Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (SHML), also known as Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), is a rare idiopathic, non-neoplastic proliferative disorder of histiocytes with an unknown etiology that most often presents as bilateral painless cervical lymphadenopathy. In this report, we highlight an unusual case of RDD pathology in a 7-month-old immunocompetent male that presented with a two-week history of cervical lymphadenopathy and fevers. Our case is an indication that while RDD in general is rare, the disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a cervical lymphadenopathy associated with rare pathogens such as Serratia marcescens.
