Lights and shadows in teaching: the teachers’ perspective
Abstract
The professional activity of non-university teachers is at present dominated by a feeling of frustration and depression. Teachers feel that they have less and less power and authority and that they are not supported by their pupils’ families, the Administration and the mass media, i.e. by the society as a whole. Moreover, teaching professionals are unable to deal with this situation as they lack both the necessary strategies and tools with which to confront it positively. This state of affairs requires urgent action and the society needs to open a great debate about education with the objective of developing an educational community in which all parties which are responsible for the education of new generations accept their role within a new ethical project.
