AÇÕES AFIRMATIVAS: uma proposta de superação do racismo e das desigualdades
Abstract
This article brings a contribution to this debate, pointing the ideologies of mestization and racial democracy as impediments to the implantation of affirmatives policies for ethnic-racial minorities in the country. Specially the ones debated on the III World-wide Conference against Racism (Racial Discrimination, Xenofobia and Related Intolerance) that occured in September of 2001, in Durban, in South Africa, are presented. During that conference signatory countries produced a final document in which they stablished a compromise to promote anti-racism policies as well as other policies to enhance the correction of inaqualities. In Brazil, however, the ethnic-racial component of public policies has provoked diverse reactions within a theoretical and emotional debate based on mistakes and accusations, focused on the conceptions of mestizations and racial democracy. Keywords: Affirmative actions, public policies, mestization, racial democracy.
