PERSPECTIVAS DESAFIADORAS DA GESTÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA DAS INSTITUIÇÕES DE EDUCAÇÃO SUPERIOR PÚBLICAS NÃO ESTATAIS DE SANTA CATARINA

Abstract

The article reflects about the challenges of the university management at non-state public institutions of higher education of Santa Catarina State. The first part describes a brief history of these institutions’ creation showing that they originated by a decision of the municipalities and communities, in order to meet a need for the provision of higher education in interior areas of the State. We identify some contribution points of these institutions to the State’s development. In the second section, from a theoretical discussion and an experiential observation in management of these institutions, critically, we reflect on what are the present and future dangers, challenges and opportunities for non-state public institutions that compose ACAFE system (Association of Educational Foundations). It is a brief review on the management of these institutions, their prospects and problems. Finally, it points to some statements that these institutions should take to overcome the greatest challenge we have, namely, that of sustainability.
