This article characterizes some of the main aspects of El angel subterráneo (1959), a Spanish translation of Jack Kerouac’s Thesubterraneans (1958) by the Argentinian writer Juan Rodolfo Wilcock. This version is analyzed along with the translation policy of the well-known publishing house Sur during the rise of the local editorial market. In the first place, the analysis describes the habitus of the translator in the Iberoamerican editorial field. In second place, the translation strategies are analyzed by comparing the source text with the target text. Finally, the article concludes by characterizing the main effect of Wilcock’s translation on Kerouac’s novel.
