TEXT PRODUCTION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH REGARD TO VARIOUS VARIABLES

This study aims to measure the text production (in 20 minutes) of secondary school students with regard to various variables. Study group of this causal-comparative research consisted of 817 secondary-school students attending two schools selected from Antakya district. When the data are analyzed, the lengths of the texts composed by the students are calculated and it is examined whether there is any differentiation in the lengths of the texts which the students has written according to the variables in personal information form. In the study the following conclusions are reached: In 20 minutes 40,5 % of secondary school students have produced 51-100-word text and 32,4 % of them 30-50-word text. It has determined that female students have written longer texts according to male students; text length has increased regularly toward 5 to 7 grade and students who are more successful in Turkish Language lesson can write longer texts. In this study, it has found that socioeconomic difference of students have effect on their text production process. When the data are analyzed, the lengths of the texts composed by the students are calculated and it is examined whether there is any differentiation in the lengths of the texts which the students has written according to the variables in personal information form. According to this result, students whose father graduated from high school or university have composed longer texts; students whose father are civil servant have composed longer texts when compared with other professions; students whose family earn less than 1500 Turkish Liras per month have lower text production compared with students whose family earn 2501- 4500 Turkish Liras per month. And it is determined that an increase in text production of students whose family have 2501-4500 Turkish Liras income per month.
