Epidemiological characteristics of the elderly HIV/AIDS cases in Cixi, Zhejiang Province, 2014‒2023LI Na
Abstract
ObjectiveTo understand the epidemic situation and epidemiological characteristics of AIDS among the elderly individuals aged 60 years and above in Cixi, and to provide an evidence for formulating targeted prevention and control strategies.MethodsData on HIV/AIDS among the elderly in Cixi from 2014 to 2023 were collected through the China Disease Prevention and Control Information System. Excel 2010 and SPSS 20.0 were used for statistical analysis.ResultsFrom 2014 to 2023, 142 cases of HIV/AIDS among the elderly were newly reported in Cixi, including 73 cases of HIV infected and 69 cases of AIDS. Among them, 84.51% were men and 15.49% were women. The oldest patient was 81 years old, and the average age was (66.01±5.20) years old. A total of 62.68% were married. The majority of registered residences were local, accounting for 79.58%. Farmers were the main occupation, accounting for 63.38%. The education level was mainly primary school and illiteracy, accounting for 77.46%. All of them were infected through sexual contact, of which heterosexual transmission accounted for 90.85%. The detection method was mainly through medical institutions, accounting for 76.76%. The mortality rate was 23.94%, with 52.94% dying within one year of diagnosis and 14.71% dying within one month of diagnosis.ConclusionTargeted interventions and detection should be strengthened to effectively curb the spread of AIDS among the elderly.
