The article presents some research results, which takes as a background the MST's experience of “agroecological transition” and its implications for the debate on rural development and rural education. Thus, we aim to analyze the role and impact that this experience of agroecological transition of the MST has been producing in its proposal for rural development and rural education within the scope of rural settlements in the Amazon. The research took as a theoretical reference the studies of the Epistemologies of the South of Boaventura de Sousa Santos and was guided by a qualitative approach. The fieldwork took place in two rural settlements, one on the Mosqueiro Island in the city of Belém, and the other in the city of Castanhal, both in the State of Pará. As a result, it was possible to identify that the MST's agroecological transition experience occurs in a contradictory and conflicting way, presenting advances and problems of an internal and external order to the Movement to materialize in its proposal for rural development and rural education and to reproduce socially in Amazonian settlements.
