Miniaturization during a Silurian environmental crisis generated the modern brittle star body plan

Abstract

Thuy et al. report two temporally consecutive species of fossil brittle stars and reveal a process of miniaturization during a Silurian environmental crisis. This study sheds light on the evolution of the modern brittle star body plan and provides insight into evolutionary change spanning speciation events.
