The author mentions that knowing arises from the nursing’s practice down the ages, and describes Carper’s fundamental patterns of knowing. She also exposes that nursing care is seen through anthropological, philosophical, socio-psychological and phenomenological perspectives by several nursing theorists. She emphasizes nurses need to develop a reflexive process to identify, interpret and integrate their historical knowing about care, in order to be self-conscious of their actual practice, as well as to obtain direction and prospective vision regarding nursing care for mankind.
