This document analyzes the attention given by the State to the cultural and linguistic diversity in urban elementary schools with indigenous alumni. This initiative was undertaken in 1998 by the State of Nuevo León in Northeastern Mexico. The analysis of this educational program in Nuevo León shows that the elimination of indigenous languages and ethnic de-characterization in urban contexts are the product of interculturalization in the school between the political reform from the State and racism. The core questions are: Under which circumstances did this program emerge? What are the arguments on which it was built? How is this intervention taking place? Which factors influence the course that it is taking? Which have been its weaknesses, and how has it been successful?
