Librarians, archivists, museologists, curators play a decisive role in the realization of archaeology studies of the media. This field of knowledge, widely diffused in Europe, is little known in Brazilian scientific research. Based on two literary works – Thomas Elsaesser and Marey and Muybridge – recently published in Brazil it is presented a brief analysis of the archaeology of the media as an activity that carries out research in the layers that constitute the history of the media from a pragmatic perspective, and about Cinema as a technological innovation and sociocultural phenomenon, as the matrix as well as ubiquitous presence in the contemporary ways of communication. A brief history of the Brazilian film library and the role of the worldwide institutions of guard and preservation of films is mentioned. Yet, it is done an analysis of the activity and role of 'memory professionals' in the most comprehensive studies in the field of Communication, from the point of view of Information Science.
