Surgical complications of puerperal women with Caesarea and their treatment

Introduction: In Cuba, Caesarean prescriptions are given by conditions which can affect mothers and fetus, in the moment of the delivery; but as a surgical procedure it can have complications. Objective: To determine surgical complications and their treatments in puerperal women with Caesarea. Methods: A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out. The universe was formed by 34 puerperal women with complicated Caesarea, and the sample 29 that met the selection criteria, from January, 2012 to December, 2016. Descriptive Statistics was used, such as distribution of the absolute frequency and the percentage, the information was presented in tables and graphs. Results: The 10.3 % of women with Caesarea presented severe hemorrhage by uterine atony and placenta previa. Puerperal hemorrhage was presented in a 41.4 % puerperal sepsis in 34.5 %. Among the performed surgical procedures the 55.2 % required hysterectomy. The diagnosis of the complication during the performance of the Caesarea in a short time prevailed, in the 44. 8 %. Conclusions: In complications during the operation which changes the course of the Caesarea into a hysterectomy, the severe bleeding prevails by uterine atony and placenta previa. Generally there is an influence in cases of hemorrhagic complications and puerperal sepsis. Total Hysterectomy, peritoneal washing and ligature of hypogastric arteries prevail as surgical procedures. The Gynecological and Obstetric Service have a high perception of risks of hemorrhagic complications during Caesarean Sections and the early diagnosis of these complications is performed.
