This article proposes a reflexion on the translation of the Bible into vernacular language through the case of Cipriano de Valera, a hieronymite monk from Seville who had adhered to the reformed theses under the influence of Dr Egidio and Constantino Ponce de la Fuente. It consists of three parts: 1) Bible and translation; 2) Bible and reading; 3) Bible and canonicity. For Cipriano de Valera, the fight against heresy can only be fought by puting the Bible into vulgar language.
