Abstract
Este artigo discute algumas das abordagens propostas sobre a questão da manutenção das forças militares, estacionadas em Pernambuco, a fim de assegurar a fidelidade da província às Cortes de Lisboa, entre 1821 e 1823. As tomadas de decisão foram marcadas por conflitos que opuseram, grosso modo, naturais de Pernambuco e portugueses. Discute, também, aspectos do posicionamento de grupos políticos pernambucanos em relação à contrarrevolução em Portugal, em 1824. O objetivo é refletir sobre a complexidade das opções políticas, na província, na conjuntura da independência do Brasil, que não se esgotam com o debate historiográfico sobre o alinhamento com Lisboa (“a outra independência”) ou com o Rio de Janeiro (“a mesma independência”). In this paper, we intend to discuss and determine some of the proposed solutions to the issue of the military forces which were maintained in Pernambuco, in order to ensure the province's loyalty to Lisbon Cortes between 1821 and 1823. The decision-making about maintaining or not military forces in Pernambuco was marked by conflicts between those inhabitants who were born in Pernambuco, Brazil, and those who had come from Portugal. This paper also seeks to identify aspects of the perspective of Pernambuco political groups in relation to the counterrevolution in Portugal, in 1824. The purpose of this study is thus to explore the complexity of the political options in that Province, in the context of Brazil's independence, which have not been exhausted by the historiographical debate on alignment either with Lisbon ("The other independence") or with Rio de Janeiro (“The same independence”).
