The archaeological department of Chartres produces 3 dimensional digital information. They are information obtained from measurements of the fields in three dimensions (generally obtained by tacheometer, but also by 3D scan) and 3D reproductions following field operations, to synthesize the archaeological information, and to test scientific hypotheses or to enhance the results of archaeological researches to the general public. Some of these 3D data are available to the scientific community, through operational reports (containing the topographic information and details of structures and numerical modeling paper prints). Other data, obtained after publication of reports or concerning a set of archeological sites, even the whole urban area, are published in scientific articles or brochures for the general people intersted in Chartres. So far, the 3D data are not subject to a particular storage and are, like the rest of the documentation saved on servers in the town hall. A study is to be conducted on the durability of digital data.
