Jouer du sorûd en Oman dans le cadre cérémoniel du damâl, parcours d'un musicien baloutche à Mascate
Abstract
The Baloch live on both sides of the Iran-Pakistan border. This group of people has been present in the Sultanate of Oman for several centuries. Certain historical elements will be presented to understand how they are scattered over Muscat. This article will especially investigate the Balochi musical practice common in the city. Through Ali's journey, I will discuss the challenges of playing sorûd (Balochi fiddle) in Oman. This instrument is central to the damâl, a ceremony frequented by the Omani Baloch people. I will highlight the importance of Ali for the social sphere in which he is included, as well as his leader role of an musical ensemble. The damâl described here echoes ritual ceremonies that have been observed in Balochistan. I will initiate a dialogue between these different cultural practices while raising the question of the Omani assimilation of the Asian damâl.
