Current views on iron deficiency anemia in children and treatment optimization

Abstract

Introduction. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment of IDA in children today is undoubtedly a pressing issue, since iron is involved in many vital processes: reducing-oxidizing and enzymatic reactions, hematopoiesis and oxygen supply to organs and tissues. Iron deficiency may result in delayed growth and development in children, reduce performance and increase the incidence of acute respiratory infections. Early diagnosis, appropriate treatment and prevention of IDA are the main components of an integrated approach used today in the treatment of anemia to maintain the health of children.
