Shaping City Identity: The Role of Built Environment Quality
Abstract
This study explores the intricate relationship between the quality of the built environment and city identity, recognizing the built environment as a pivotal determinant in shaping the unique character and persona of urban spaces. Through a comprehensive review of literature and comparative analysis of diverse case studies, this research illuminates how architectural elements, urban planning, and public spaces contribute to the collective memory and identity of cities. Key findings reveal that high-quality built environments enhance city identity by fostering a sense of belonging, cultural continuity, and community engagement. Moreover, the study identifies the critical role of sustainable and inclusive design principles in reinforcing city identity in the face of rapid urbanization and globalization.
