Uso de glucagon no manejo de obstrução ureteral em um gato com doença renal crônica - relato de caso
Abstract
Nowadays, unilateral or bilateral ureteral obstruction is a common condition for domestic cats and it´s not easy to solve. The patient usually, by the time of the diagnosis, presents acutely to severe renal injuries. In this report, glucagon was used as a therapeutic auxiliary in the clinical management of ureteral obstruction in a Siamese mix cat, 3 years old, with chronic kidney disease. The patient was brought to the exclusive cat care service of UFRRJ for 3 months. It was possible to see clinical improvement after 2 months of treatment. In that period the patient was submitted to blood tests and image diagnosis. The clinical azotemia management was made at the same time as the glucagon use, as well, diuretic, analgesia and intravenous fluids once a week and prazosin daily. The cat has 7 months of survival so far and is stabilized by the chronic kidney disease. In humans the clinical management of ureteral obstruction is routine, but veterinary still doesn´t have data with this protocol and their benefits. So, this report proves there are benefits in this way of treatment of the ureteral obstruction in domestic cats.
