Given the challenging of social fragmentation and vulnerability, and in the context of university social responsibility, this paper makes the case neighbor vocation of Catholic universities, and therefore its necessary extraversion, proactive social inclusion, openness and inclusion, and their indelible contribution to the culture of solidarity and civic engagement. Indeed, it is argued that, rather than a mere social responsibility, the Catholic university has a real “social and cultural mission”. In secular media, but also of Christian incarnation, the task of catholic universities is both social engagement and cultural contradiction. Faced with the social fragmentation and vulnerability, indifference, individualism and inequality, the scars of indifference, distrust and disbelief to despair and social distress, dedication to service and otherness of Catholic universities –and his own identity and mission–, must be translated into the building of a culture of responsibility and communion, helping to set up a fairer, more cohesive and more fraternal society.
