Synthesis of pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine scaffolds promoted by polyfluorinated alcohol as a reusable solvent/catalyst
Abstract
Using principles of green chemistry, a safe way to make pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine scaffolds is described. This is done by combining barbituric acid/1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid, malononitrile, aryl aldehydes in a green way, using polyfluorinated alcohol as a reusable solvent/catalyst. This eco-friendly approach includes using safe reaction conditions, without needing to separate using column chromatography, available and inexpensive solvent/catalyst, one-pot, and using resources efficiently. Moreover, the green 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) stayed stable and could be reused five times without needing big changes. This is very useful for solving environmental problems and meeting industrial needs.
