In the Face of State Disengagement, What Type of Change for Draft Animal Power Support Services?
Abstract
State disengagement from agriculture support services led to the development of new set-ups and new operators (private sector, professional/vocational associations, NGOs, civil society associations...), and to a change in coordination processes between stakeholders. These changes pose three main problems, which are discussed in this article with the example of draft animal power: technical and organizational development of services to enable a sustainable adaptation of the animal traction offer to producers‚ demands and constraints; institutional, financial and social sustainability; coordination within each service sector and between the various service sectors, which are jointly essential to draft animal power development (farm implement supplies, animal health, advice to farmers...).
