In the title compound, 2Na+·C18H12O6S22−, the sodium ion is sevenfold coordinated by O atoms of five sulfonate groups (two in a chelating and three in a monodentate binding mode). They form (100) layers of edge-, corner- and face-sharing [NaO7] polyherdra which are interconnected by the terphenyl moieties. The asymmetric unit contains one sodium cation and one p-terphenyl-4,4′′-disulfonate anion on a centre of inversion.
