This article provides a comprehensive overview of past studies of aircraft icing. Special attention is paid to the following aspects. First, the causes, types, severity and natural parameters of aircraft icing are introduced. Then the various effects of icing on the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft, stability, controllability, as well as existing evaluation methods are generalized and analyzed. The following is a simple introduction to the recent problem of icing with supercooled large droplets, and whose nature is carefully described in the article (SLD). Finally, a series of aviation accidents that have occurred in recent years due to icing is analyzed. Previous lessons should be adopted and disseminated by subsequent generations in order to avoid accidents due to icing of aircraft. Based on the consideration of such a wide range of issues related to icing, ways to prevent it using various methods and devices are considered, and the effectiveness of such methods to prevent icing of specific aircraft units is compared.
