Abstract

his article deals with the narratives and stories of french and english travelers in Rio de Janeiro in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. With both scientific and commercial purposes, such as the voyages of Bougainville and James Cook, such trips gave empirical knowledge about the territories, the colonial society, from data observed on site. The context of the Seven Years’ War would transform, however, forms of interaction among travelers and local authorities in Rio de Janeiro.
