Abstract
Thls article aims to demonstrate the contributions 01 the use 01 category status for studies on social rights and social policies. The paper reviews concepts and analyzes of Marshall about status and social rights. To do so, it investigates the determinants 01 capltalíst society and the emergence 01 social rights in this contex!. Discusses the tendency 01 debate about rights in the literature of Brazilian social policy and identifies the analysis gaps that can be harnessed from the use of the category status. Then presents and discusses the marxist critic formulated by Brazilian researchers on the concepts of Marshall, while pointing out the Iimits 01 this critico Finally, índlcates some contributions that the category status can present for studies on social pollcy and social rights, such as the possibility 01 identilying the implications 01 access to social rights in the social posítlon 01 groups and indlviduals.
