Les archéologues et l’archéologie face aux médias, un miroir dérangeant ?
Abstract
As deceptive and caricatural as it may appear, the public image of archaeology has nothing to do with arbitrariness. As the history of research shows, the most worn clichés have in fact always hatched within the scientific community of archaeology itself. Actually, the media draw on the taboos of our discipline to set out a picture of our history : they live on the fantasies which we precisely repress through scientific procedures. The public image of archaeology can thus be understood as a kind of mirror, inviting to fruitful reflections about our profession.
