Experiences of teaching-service integration in the process of professional development in health: an integrative review

Abstract

The present study addresses the theme of teaching-service interaction in the process of professional development in health. The objective was to characterize, in scientific studies indexed on databases, the advancements and challenges of teaching-service integration in the process of professional development in health. An integrative literature review was performed by searching articles published between 2005 and 2013 in journals indexed in databases of the Virtual Health Library. The final sample was comprised of 18 publications. The teaching-service integration experiences promote advancements in improving the connection between universities and health institutions, reorganizing teaching and health care and regarding permanent education. Nevertheless, several challenges must be overcome, particularly in sharing goals and in improving relationships based on dialogue.
