A intervenção da CEDEAO na Costa do Marfim: dinâmicas pós-coloniais nos processos de paz regionais

Abstract

The academic debate on security regionalization highlights the technical, economic and institutional deficiencies of regional organizations, as well as the friendship-enmity relationships between their members, as the main obstacles to regional peace and security processes. Less attention has been paid to the effects of postcolonial dynamics, especially the relationships between former colonial powers and former colonies on these processes. Starting from this gap, this article analyzes the influence of post-colonial dynamics on regional peace processes using as a case study the interventions of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Ivory Coast (2002-2007). Through qualitative analysis of primary and secondary sources, the article argues that these interventions failed to establish positive peace because of power struggles and interests arising from post-colonial dynamics.
