In this study, a facile and green synthesis approach of Zn2SnO4 was conducted by using Impatiens balsamina L. aqueous leaf extract through the hydrothermal method. The results show that Zn2SnO4 was successfully produced with a specific characteristic which is strongly influenced by the presence of extract. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed an enhancement of crystallinity along with the increase of extract quantity. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis confirmed the formation of irregular, spherical, and octahedral shaped of Zn2SnO4 particles, based on extract concentration used. The optical bandgap values of the obtained Zn2SnO4 were different based on morphology. This is because the synthesized microstructure showed good photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV irradiation. These results confirm that I. balsamina is a promising material for mediating the synthesis of Zn2SnO4, the properties of which can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of the leaf extract.
