Evolution of the forms of land holding in Mexico is examined in this study since prehispanic times. This process in described in particular for the State of Queretaro both changes prior to the Agrarian Reform movement and the subsequent changes in landholding leading to the ejido formation are analyzed. The study of these changes at municipal level gives a clear picture of the them and other specific problems that should be revised if an adecuate solution ins intented. Finally economic activities are examined by establishing a relationship between the number of farmers that work an ´ejido´ and the economically active rural population.
